SuZhou Private Museum Concept

This is a proposal for a private art museum located in Suzhou, China. The city was called “Oriental Venice” because of its famous canals running through the entire old town. Citizens of SuZhou used to travel along the city by boat. Now like many other cities, its canals were filled to make roads for cars.
Our project is the second phase of the museum. The site is separated from its first phase (completed) by a river. Since the new phase has better connection to the city traffic, the museum wants the visitor to use the second phase as the main entrance and cross the river to visit the first phase after. A pedestrian bridge was the initial idea from the museum. We turned it over with boat and piers. The new building will be a group of buildings sitting in the water, connected by overpass on the second floor. Visitors can travel by boats in the canals and pass the river to the first phase. A bridge is saved and a museum on the water is created.
